House Strips Abortion Coverage from Health Reform Bill

The health reform bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives Saturday night includes a startling setback for women: a prohibition on federal subsidies for insurance plans that cover abortion services, both private plans and those offered through the new "public option."

On its face, the amendment prohibiting coverage seems to target low-income women and families. But it is expected that insurance companies will drop coverage entirely so that their plans are eligible for the federal subsidies, which would be provided to a broad swath of the public, including families earning up to $98,000 a year.

Don't let this injustice stand. Please take a moment to contact President Obama and demand that he stand up for women and fight to strip this anti-choice provision from the final bill.

America's women are counting on you. Please act today.
